Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is this comic in black and white? It’s on the internet, fer gosh sakes, it’s not like color costs extra!
- No, but it does take extra time. The first iteration of HOLE was in color, but I thought it was taking way too long. Faced with the choice of having a color comic that never came out, or a black and white one that did, I picked the black and white.
- Are the characters really from your D&D game?
- Sorta. In the About the Characters section I mentioned that the characters were very loosely based on the PCs in a game I played in. The names were changed and the personalities and motivations were monkeyed about with for the sake of the comic. I also took the liberty of making them all look the way they did in my head instead of drawing them they way they were probably supposed to be. (Sorry guys!) Finally, our wonderful DM used the Mystara world for our game, which I would very likely be sued for if I tried to incorporate it into my web-comic, so I simply nicked the campaign world I had created for my old Tuesday night GURPS game.
- Which character is yours?
- Not tellin’!
- Who made your Web site? It's super-cool and I can tell you're not that talented.
- Thanks. Really. The original web site was created and designed by my wife, Lena Shore. She is, as you can clearly see, by far the more talented of the two of us, though for some unfathomable reason doesn't have the patience for creating comics. I tried to get her to keep her maiden name when we married, by the way, but she wouldn't hear of it. She has certainly changed her tune since then I can tell you... wait... is that a good thing? The site you see now was a joint effort in design by Lena and JP. The coolest part of this Web site is the stuff you CAN'T see. It's all the admin areas where strips can be uploaded, blogs can be edited, and world domination can be planned. You WISH you could see back there. But, you can't. But, JP can — cause he developed all the groovy admin stuff for me to use and you to enjoy. It makes this venture doable. I can't thank him enough.
- You live in Florida! I live in Florida! Wanna go hang out and I can tell you all about my character and you can put it all in your strip?
- Give me a hug you big ol' geek you!
- So-and-so draws better than you do. And Such-and-such is way funnier. Why don't you go back to washing dishes at Pizza Hut?
- What's wrong with washing dishes? And I happen to love Pizza Hut! What, don't you wash dishes in your house? Barbarian!
- Can I steal all your comics to make my own book and sell it in school?
- No.
- Fine. Are you gonna make a book yourself then?
- Hopefully, if everything goes the way I hope it will, we will be offering printed compilations of strips in book form eventually. Solvency is a big dream of mine. That, and having no other job than the one I have created for myself here.
- What are your favorite webcomics?
- I started all of this by looking over the shoulders of others and thinking, "Hey! That looks like huge fun! I wanna do that too!" My personal favorites are Order of the Stick, 8-Bit Theatre, Nodwick, Irregular Web Comic, and Sluggy Freelance. Go check 'em out!
- Do you play any MMORPGs?
- As it just so happens, I do. My wife and I play WoW on the Aggramar server. My main is a Dwarf Hunter named Gunberry. Feel free to say hi!
